Established in 2006 in Bellingen in northern NSW, Bellingen Gelato has become a local favourite with its second shop opening on Darling Street in Rozelle. Using only natural ingredients, there is a large range on offer behind the gleaming glass of the gelato bar. Once you try its strong, distinct flavours, you’ll be hooked.

Though choosing a flavour seems a near-impossible task, you can’t go wrong here. Working seasonally, the team matches flavours that enhance one another, with constant experimentation in the kitchen on site. Summer flavours include peach sorbet, sour cherry, raspberry and passionfruit, all made with fresh summer fruit.

Other favourites at the Rozelle shop include burnt caramel (thick with a rich honeycomb flavour), and chocolate rocher (made with Dutch chocolate and hazelnuts). Fresh fig and port, lemon and mascarpone, and jaffa (an orange marmalade base with chocolate) are a few of the newer flavours, subject to change.

Dark chocolate mousse sorbet is for chocolate fanatics and the lactose intolerant alike. Its rich, intense flavour and texture has been described as “hard-core” by the team.

A Zimbabwean single-estate bean is used in the espresso machine, and it’s the only cafe in Sydney where you’ll find this particular blend. If you’re after an affogato, Persian date gelato works perfectly as a base.
