Ashfield Mall Cellars
Closed Permanently – now known as Crafty Club
Ashfield Mall Cellars has been rebranded as Crafty Club.
It’s an unassuming-looking shop in an unassuming shopping centre. Ashfield Mall Cellars might be its official name, but look for the “Liquor Legends” branding as you head down towards the car park.
This once generic bottle shop, which used to focus on moving mass-produced beers and the same old wine labels, has changed for the good. Under the stewardship of the folks behind Crows Nest’s Cutty Cellars, Ashfield Mall Cellars now stocks a huge range of hard-to-get-elsewhere beers.
There’s a strong Australian focus with beer from neighbouring inner-westies such as Batch, Young Henrys and Willie the Boatman; elsewhere in Sydney such as 4 Pines, Riverside and Lord Nelson; and interstaters such as Holgate, Pirate Life and Coopers.
The international range traverses the beer-producing hotspots of the world. A large selection of Belgian, German and Dutch beer matches an equally impressive North American offering. To cater to Ashfield’s diverse residents, the shop often does cheap deals on lagers from Asia.
As the bottle shop’s beer range has improved, so has its wine tastes. What was once a pedestrian offering is now an Australian-focused range with bottles from the Clare Valley, Barossa and Margaret River.
