The emporium of Chinese eats that is Xi'an has an extensive selection of dishes under $5. Think sliced pig ears, and cucumber with garlic sauce. Or even sauteed tripe.

Xi’an is the definition of no frills – ancient menus, insanely cheap, confused staff and great food. What to order depends on the season. In winter, the pork pita bread, at $4, is unmissable. It's a deliciously fatty and chewy pita-bread roll filled with pork and capsicum. On warmer days, get the refreshingly minimal cold knife slice noodles with chili, cucumber and vegetables.
