Features
Packed to the rafters since 2004, the enduring Spice I Am is a highlight in the city’s Thai dining scene and is easily among the busiest restaurants in Surry Hills. The lengthy menu flaunts Thai favourites you know and perhaps others you don’t; loaded with flavour and often extreme spice. Conveniently, Spice I Am has a BYO policy and a small corkage price. Less conveniently, you will have to wait for a table nearly always.
When you do get the chance to sit down, start with a piquant tom yum goong (a hot-and-sour prawn soup) to prime your palate. For those who like it hot, Spice I Am’s signatures are where it’s at. The Phuket-style Pla Pad Cha (stir-fried curry fish with eggplant and basil) is a must-order, as is the fiery chicken larb and green papaya salad. Cool off with a young coconut juice or a glass of that good wine you brought with you.
