In the space that once was Fish Face on Darlinghurst Road, this colourful cantina has a huge, vibrant, street-side mural of Freda Kahlo by Argentinean artist Skullavera. Chef Alejandro Urbina (previously of Rojo Rocket and Grup Habita) serves Tulum tostaditas with fish ceviche; taco don pastor of adobo pork with pineapple; and grilled chicken burritos with puebla rice and chipotle salsa.

The colourful, tropical look and feel of Playa (as well as the name) is based on the traditional taquerias of Mexico, but take particular influence from the beachside city of Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean Sea.

Drink up with cocktails including the Mezcalina (mezcal, agave syrup, lime and a secret ingredient) or the Playa del Carmen Paloma (tequila blanco, soda, salt rim and lime). Work your way through the selection of tequilas and mezcals, or sample the wine and beer list covering Argentina, Spain, Chile and Mexico.

The artwork inside the venue changes regularly, with new artists featuring every few months. Seven nights per week they offer takeaway and home delivery to Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, King Cross, Sydney, Paddington with DarlingPoint and Elizabeth Bay on the loop. You can order through their website or via their facebook page.
