Tom Eadie, the mastermind behind northern beaches bakery empire Berkelo, has channeled his passion for sourdough into Berkelo Kitchen, a full-service restaurant in Terrey Hills near the scenic Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

Eadie found just the right spot near the corner of McCarrs Creek and Mona Vale Roads: an old weatherboard cottage on two acres sporting gardens planted with natives, herb beds and veggie plots. In addition to the dining room, a shipping container next to the cottage sends out Berkelo’s fantastic baked goods and coffee.

Since arriving to the property, the team’s planted saltbush, native oregano and basil, which make their way to the sourdough pizza menu. Whatever isn’t grown on site is sourced from nearby suppliers whenever possible. For example, locally grown oranges are blended into an emulsion of olive oil and confit garlic, then topped with snapper, finger lime and chilli for a summery starter.

The beer list showcases the best of the area’s brewery scene, and the menu leans natural. The non-alc offering includes kombucha brewed on-site and sodas made with house-made syrups.

Sit outside in the garden or inside the cottage, either way you’ll be fireside: there’s a garden firepit along with a hearthe inside.
