Batch Burgers & Espresso has hoisted its flag in Kiribilli for the stars and stripes. Brought to us by the man behind Batch No. 1 Espresso in the CBD, it’s a cosy and noisy little spot, reminiscent of scenes from a 1950s film, dominated by a big counter with bar stools and a bright neon sign.
They’re open from breakfast until well past dinner, with the beefy breakfast burger and breakfast burrito making popular breakfast options. But it’s the hearty lunch and dinner menu that sees locals vying for a spot at the bar. Chicken and beef burgers are the go-to (complete with fluffy Brasserie Bread buns), but hotdogs and chilli-dogs are well represented too. It’s American to the core, but there’s a nod to the international, with burgers including The French (blue cheese) and Mexican (jalapeños and hot taco sauce).
Shakes come with mix-ins like Cherry Ripe or Mars Bar and there’s a flavour of the week to keep an eye out for, as well as desserts of waffles with Canadian maple syrup or a banana split. So pull up a stool and check out your placemat menu – the American diner is here.
