Barrafina Tapas Bar

Barrafina Tapas Bar is another addition to the growing, casual Spanish dining scene in Sydney. Conveniently located at the northern end of the CBD, Barrafina enjoys a charming backdrop of heritage sandstone buildings and modern architecture. Inside, city workers perch on high yellow stools around the curvaceous open black tiled bar, which also forms part of the kitchen, while others choose to sit among the chic white tables. The contemporary interior features a stylish hexagon mosaic wall contrasted by an eccentric mural at the back.

The clipboard lunch menu ranges from pintxos and tapas to charcuterie plates. With the chefs behind the bar more than happy to suggest their favourites, perhaps start with the soft shell crab slider with mild harissa mayonnaise and avocado crème. Move onto the seared Queensland scallops, served on feisty chorizo pieces and a delicious sweet corn puree, then dive into the succulent 12-hour braised lamb shoulder served with ratatouille and a generous dollop of smoky eggplant puree.

With an impressive list featuring local and international wines, this CBD eatery is an impressive lunchtime or post-work pit stop.
