Alibi Bar and Dining
Menu - Mr Yum
There was once a time in Sydney when vegan cuisine meant under-seasoned risotto, ho-hum burgers and tofu everything. Enter Alibi, the Ovolo Hotel’s restaurant at the historic Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf, and a leader in Sydney’s vegan dining since 2018.
Shannon Martinez of Smith & Daughters fame is behind the menu here, alongside executive chef Jiwon Do. As at her pioneering Melbourne venue, Martinez’ Spanish heritage informs Alibi’s Mediterranean dishes, many of which feature her signature vegan cheeses, labneh and yoghurt.
Highlights from the à la carte offering include Padron pepper and parmesan croquettes, a trad lasagne and sangria crumble with saffron custard. There’s also a tight bar menu featuring an outstanding burger, patatas bravas with chilli sauce and garlic aioli, and spiced-sugar doughnuts piped with quince. Alibi also serves high tea on weekends, with bottomless tea and coffee. Plus, cocktails and free flowing bubbles, for an additional cost.
You can expect similar Mediterranean flair on the drinks list, in the form of spritzes, stiffer drinks and notable non alc options. Wines include Mediterranean varietals from small Australian producers, with around 30 per cent of them suitable for vegans.
