Crustacean and fish fans will tell you that there’s nothing on God’s Earth quite like a fish market in the morning. In the staggering Sydney Fish Market, 20 tonnes of seafood is estimated to be sold every hour.
As you cross Anzac Bridge you cannot miss Sydney Fish Market’s angular 200-metre-wide roof, arching across Blackwattle Bay. It’s the home of 40 retailers – a mix of newcomers and those who moved from the rough-around-the-edges original – a live auction floor, wharf for fish deliveries and more. The government is forecasting six million visitors each year to the updated star on Sydney’s scene.
At the $836 million build, retailers will span three storeys, operating with more than twice the area (and double the opening hours) of the original we’re used to.
