If you think The Pig & Pastry sounds like the name of a British pub, you’re not far off the mark. Owners Katherine and Iain Smart adopted the name after spending time working in the UK. But it wasn’t a pub that inspired them – Iain’s sister owns a cafe in York called The Pig & Pastry.

You might remember Katherine’s face from Kitchen by Mike, where she worked front-of-house. Iain (ex-The Botanist) runs the kitchen with a from-scratch ethos.

All the cakes, cookies and tarts are baked in-house and served with housemade ice cream. Iain’s passion for baking his own bread also shines through, with fruit bread and brioche also on the menu.

Add to that bacon and egg rolls on house baps with house ketchup, braised beans with chorizo and sourdough; and bircher muesli with fruit compote, and you’ve got mornings covered.

Lunch offers daily soups, a variety of hearty salads and a beef burger with thrice-cooked chips. The Pig & Pastry is licensed too, with a tight drinks list to complement the menu, including coffee from De Luca.
