Lee Mathews is at home among other exclusive Australian designers at Paddington’s The Intersection – the strip of boutiques along the corner of Oxford Street and Glenmore Road.

The store reflects the clean and timeless style of her collection, with a neutral palette, raw and finished timber, stone surfaces and beautiful lighting. Mathews wanted the store to feel calm and contemporary, yet natural, with purpose-made areas.

From her beginnings on Sydney’s northern beaches, which she describes as “very homespun” Mathews says the label has evolved in the same way as the store – a bit cleaner, simpler, with key elements remaining constant over the years, such as her use of natural fabrics: linen, silk, cotton, wool and cashmere. “The label is often described as “modern bohemian”, which resonates with Matthews; romantic, but travelled, informed and practical.

Alongside the clothing are ceramics, accessories, jewellery and homewares. Mathews is also collaborating with like-minded artisans such as ceramicist Hayden Youlley, providing areas in the store to house their collections.
