The Agrestic Grocer
At The Agrestic Grocer, the focus is always on provenance, health, sustainability and flavour. Because it’s by a couple of health food store owners and local growers, it’s not surprising it specialises in farm-to-plate, nose-to-tail dining experiences.
The Badlands Beer it stocks is brewed on-site, the cheese is made out the back and are cellar door to award winning Pig in the House award winning organic wines. (The farmer who supplies Agrestic with pork takes home the whey and spent grains to feed his animals.) For the menu and grocery, the owners draw inspiration from the produce growing in abundance in and around the farms and backyards of Orange. They’ve created a new ecosystem for themselves within the Orange food scene.
But it doesn’t end there. Sit down for lunch and you’ll see locals bringing in all sorts of things grown in their backyards, which the owners will happily sell-on or buy for use in the kitchen. This is why the Agrestic’s signature is its ever-changing menu, which allows the chefs to try just about anything and everything. Ask to taste whatever they’ve pickled recently.
Go for dinner and a beer tasting, and watch the space transform into an exciting live music venue for local and touring artists at night.
