Located near its partner store Maple, Local Store Newtown holds a comprehensive selection of Australian and international streetwear labels. Owner Gary Fiene opened Maple in 2006 and followed up here four years later, aiming to attract a younger demographic.

The store’s slogan – “We sell stuff we like” – is a message that comes across clearly as soon as you walk through the door. Fiene takes a hands-off approach, letting his staff choose the stock, which caters to both men and women.

Long wooden shelves showcase an impressive range of denim jeans from brands such as Rollas and Neuw. There are Status Anxiety clutches, Holly Ryan jewellery and Adidas sneakers arranged on large wooden tables, while backpacks and hats hang off the walls.
