Features
At Joe’s Tavern, the final addition to Paisano and Daughters’ Australia Street precinct, expect to see the “classics done right.” Specifically, New York-style tavern classics: devilled eggs, prawn cocktails, a signature burger, and hefty golden onion rings.
Truly though, the menu has something for everyone, with dedicated vegetable, seafood, and offal sections. Plus, one titled “Parts & Labour,” which sees the kitchen break down a whole animal and serve its various cuts in changing weekly offerings.
The bar is focused on classics, too. The list features Mint Juleps, Martinis and Manhattans, and simple Negronis – exactly as they were originally intended.
This same reverence for old-fashioned comfort food is seen in pastry chef Lauren Eldridge’s desserts. The Knickerbocker Glory is all ice-cream, fruit, and cream; plus, there’s a sliced-up NY cheesecake on the counter and PB&J ice-cream sandwiches.
The 30-seater has a lived-in charm that belies how young it is. An open back bar and a halo of black-framed kitchen heroes from around the world transport you to old New York.
