Oft referred to as “glamarama,”, this compact beach is to the south of Bondi on the coastal walk to Coogee.

Tamarama has been dubbed the most dangerous beach in New South Wales, with more rescues per thousand bathers than any other beach in the state, according to the Tamarama lifesaving club. It’s just as well that most local residents stick to the beach’s pristine sand.

The swells here are formidable even on a good day, with permanent rips deterring all but the most experienced surfers.

For a reprieve from the surf and people-watching, the no-frills kiosk and shady parkland back from the beach are lovely little escapes.
