At Cornersmith, the words local, ethical and seasonal really mean something. Husband-and-wife team Alex Elliot-Howery and James Grant care deeply about this ethos.

The Picklery is further proof. It’s a five-minute walk from Cornersmith cafe and stocks fresh sourdough, honey from The Urban Beehive, free-range eggs, pickling vinegar, dairy products, preserves, cookbooks and more.

The small grocer aims to lure people away from the supermarket and show how easy it is to make useful products at home.

When the open kitchen isn’t buzzing with chefs preparing jams, chutneys and preserves for the shelves, it’s full of visitors learning how do to all that for themselves. Regular workshops include bread making, home brewing, preserving and vegan baking. Check the Cornersmith website for a calendar of upcoming classes.
