The Grifter Brewing Co started out as a backyard operation for its three founders, who’ve come a long way since 2012. Today Glenn Wignall, Matt King and Trent Evans are behind one of Sydney’s most recognisable and loved independent breweries, which you’ll find in a sun-drenched former laundromat warehouse in Marrickville's industrial heart.

The team is proudly in the business of making honest and accessible beers, but the Grifter’s more outlandish styles have also landed well with the community. The best example of this is the Serpent’s Kiss, a crisp pilsner made with cold-pressed watermelon juice that’s so become popular, it’s achieved unofficial meme status. But the flagship throughout has been the Grifter Pale Ale, a zesty, golden drop wrapped in the iconic “orange goblin” tin.

The Grifter’s Australiana influences extend to the taproom, where native flowers punctuate the lengthy bar, and the carpeted pool room recalls a classic country pub. The team has also added a pair of Gozney domes to the equation, and serves woodfired pizza from the in-house pizza bar, Fortune, Friday to Sunday.
