When you think about it, it’s weird that we commemorate the efforts of the Labour Movement by taking a day off. But that’s exactly what the unionists would have wanted. They started the eight-hour-work-day movement in Australia back in the 1850s, and we have them to thank for our workers’ rights.

But plenty of hospo heroes will be working on the Labour Day public holiday (Monday, October 6), keeping bars, cafes and restaurants open so you can make the most of your day off. Time to tick some of these spots off your list.
