Whether you’re looking to learn from our city’s finest bartenders, taste some truly excellent drinks or just gain a new appreciation for a well-made cocktail, the just-launched program for World Class Cocktail Week, which runs May 9-May 15, has everything you need.

Monday 9th May
Start the week learning how to carve your very own crystal-clear ice ball at Tokyo Bird’s ice ball masterclass. Head to the Wild Rover for a night of whisky and cheese pairing, courtesy of World Class and Johnnie Walker ambassador Sean Baxter, and cheesemonger Kieran Day from the Stinking Bishops. If you're up for something more decadent, Bennelong is pairing cocktails with four of Peter Gilmore’s signature desserts.

Tuesday 10th May
Henrietta Supper Club is hosting a Margarita masterclass complete with tequila tastings and nachos. Mamasan in Surry Hills is throwing a cocktail and tapas party, offering 12 courses of Asian tapas and a cocktail. Mamasan Bondi is putting on the same party on the Thursday.

Wednesday 11th May
Choose between a night of barbequed pork ribs, brisket and boilermakers at Surly’s (while the Sweet Jelly Rolls play live); Old Fashioneds at Tatler; or a night of historical cocktails and matched canapes at Della Hyde. There’s also a three-course matched food-and-cocktail degustation at the Three Blue Ducks, and a crash course in molecular mixology at Shangri-La Hotel’s Blu Bar.

Thursday 12th May
For aficionados of real disco, Zeta Bar is hosting a Paradise Garage-themed party. If you’re in the mood for something a little more subdued, head to Riley St Garage to learn how to mix three of its classic cocktails.

Friday 13th May
Head into the weekend at Darlo Country Club’s Game, Set, Match: dress in your favourite sporting attire and prepare for an evening of croquet, music and cocktails.

Saturday 14th May
Needless to say, this is the biggest night of Cocktail Week. Marble Bar is throwing a Gatsby-themed party. Henrietta Supper Club will hold a tiki-themed hula bula party. The Carrington is putting a spin on the Espresso Martini in honour of its inventor, the late, famed London bartender Dick Bradsell; and the Swinging Cat is hosting Herb Armstrong, grandson of the famous Louis Armstrong, for a night of jazz and New Orleans cocktails.

Sunday 15th May
Finish Cocktail Week with a Sunday brunch at Bondi’s Icebergs, then head to either Bloody Mary’s Sydney or the Village Inn for a DIY-Bloody Mary session.

All week
Beyond masterclasses and themed events, many venues are offering special cocktails for the duration of the week. Bridge St Garage is doing a special Pina Colada with a bonus mini-masterclass, and the Gretz is offering Talisker whisky-based cocktails and tasting flights paired with oysters. Crane Bar, Cho Cho San and Bloodwood all have three-course cocktail and food matching events. Dead Ringer, Since I Left You and Bulletin Place have specials on for the week; and This Must Be The Place is taking it a step further by offering its owners’ (World Class Bartender of the Year winners Luke Ashton and Charlie Ainsbury) competition-winning drinks.
