Potts Point isn’t exactly suffering from a devastating shortage of smooth cocktails bars, good wine and modern Italian fare, so when yet another European-style venue opens up, you’d better hope that it’s a good one.

Luckily, new eatery The Village is another sparkling jewel to add to Potts Point’s crown, with enough of all the requisite elements – location, design and pizza – to ensure it holds its own alongside the suite of existing nearby venues, including Fratelli Paradiso, Mezzaluna Ristorante and infamous local powerbroker The Gazebo.

The Village’s offering is tellingly similar to this latter venue, with owners Andrew De Saxe and James Moses creating an expansive two-level venue that blends the sophisticated bistro with the gussied-up pub. The menu reflects this coming together, with relaxed Italian food and a grazing menu that includes cheese plates, cured meats, arancini and peppered squid, pizza, pasta and a 250g steak.

Pasta and pizza are all well and good, but The Village is also a catch for its sharp interiors and large entertaining space. There are several upstairs and downstairs bistros at this luxe diner, as well as two bars and a sunny courtyard out back. Drink jugs of Pimm’s, Sangria and Caipirinhas here before its cool.

Bookended by vintage shops on a quiet street and just minutes from the bustle of Kings Cross, this new spot tucked into Potts Point is open late and has its drinking hat on.
