Venus Wholefoods makes healthy meals that are approachable, convenient and anything but boring. Its menu contains thoughtful house-made salads, sandwiches and fresh smoothies.
“Everything we do is nourishing,” says owner Michelle Hughes. “It’s healthy food that’s fun and creative.” To add to the cafe’s much-loved list of smoothies, Hughes has created a summery addition in partnership with Broadsheet and Weet-Bix. It blends mango with traditional green-smoothie ingredients.
“I wanted to make a smoothie that tastes like summer, but also had a refreshing flavor and lots of fibre, so I added spinach, mint and Weet-Bix,” she says.
Outside of kiddy breakfasts with piles of brown sugar and milk (which Hughes has fond memories of), she says it’s easy to get your fibre hit by adding Weet-Bix to smoothies – just avoid blending it with milks.
“Personally, I don’t put too many things in my smoothies, so they’re easier to digest,” Hughes says. “The more I put in, the more my body struggles and takes a while to digest.”
The limited-edition mango smoothie is available now at Venus Wholefoods. Below is also the recipe for you to try at home.
