For one day only, OzHarvest is teaming up with Uber and celebrity chefs around Australia to bring you lunch on demand, delivered straight to your door. You can get a Burger Project Corned Beef Burger with corned beef, pickles, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise and secret sauce for $12 delivered to you anywhere in the CBD. All proceeds will go to OzHarvest.
OzHarvest founder Ronni Khan hopes the initiative will help provide another 50,000 meals to Australians in need. “Some of our best chefs have agreed to help us raise awareness and do something fun,” she says. “So today, if you order lunch through Uber, you’ll get a Neil Perry burger delivered.”
There are less than 200 meals for delivery in each city, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. It’s currently a one-off event, but if demand is high, Khan says OzHarvest might go to other chefs in future.
She also offers tips on how to minimise food wastage. “Right now, people can go online to pledge that they’re going to change their behaviour, then we’ll send them hints about how they can do that.”
She suggests making a shopping list and being mindful when shopping for fruit and veg. “When there’s a two-for-one special, sometimes it’s not cheaper if it means you’re throwing away more food. You’re not saving money and you’re certainly not helping the world.”
How to order:
- Open your Uber app between 12pm and 2pm anywhere in Sydney’s CBD
- Request the HARVEST option in the slider at the bottom of the app
- Meet your driver curbside and they’ll deliver you a delicious and nutritious lunch from Neil Perry.
