On the first Friday of June we celebrate one of the only foods that tastes better with a chunk out of the middle – National Doughnut Day. Here are the doughnut-makers giving away freebies today, and those serving something special.

Shortstop Coffee & Donuts
Head down to Barangaroo for free Cinnamon Spice Cake Donuts. Shortstop is giving away a free one with every order. Made with ingredients such as Pepe Saya Butter and flour from Laucke Flour Mills, the result is crispy, warm and puffy doughnuts. If you can’t make it to one of the stores you can also get your freebie online here.

Krispy Kreme
Krispy Kreme is celebrating by giving away free Original Glazed doughnuts. In 2017 the fried-treat chain will have its biggest giveaway yet; 30,000 doughnuts are being handed out across Australia. It’s first-in-best-dressed, though. Find store locations here.

Doughnut Time
Doughnut Time kiosks may be small, but you can’t miss them. Today only you can try its limited-edition MEGA doughnuts (they are literally giant doughnuts). They serve approximately four people and will be available for between $15 and $24 each. Dunk it into one of the Nutella and toasted marshmallow hot chocolates on offer. There will also be three delicious desserts on offer: The D’oh! Nut with pink frosting and sprinkles, the Big Poppa with Nutella oozing out of its centre and the Chris Hemsworthy.

Tella Balls Dessert Bar
Tella Balls Dessert Bar is doing special Tella Ball Sliders; a gelato and doughnut fusion. Enjoy sliders such as The Oreo with vanilla-bean gelato and Belgian white chocolate sauce, or The Golden with Golden Gaytime gelato and caramel sauce.

Glow Cave Dessert Bar, Martin Place
Vivid festival is celebrating today with a glow-in-the-dark doughnut. It’s available at the luminous Motti + Smith-designed dessert bar in Martin Place. Eat it inside the “Glow Cave” for full effect.
