T Totaler, an artisan, loose-leaf tea store that first opened as a pop-up on Newtown’s King Street has just announced it will be settling in for good.
“When it comes to tea, our philosophy is all about buying local, educating and experimenting,” says T Totaler founder and owner, Amber Hudson. “I love experimenting with different flavour profiles and brew methods such as cold drop and sparking tea.”
Order in and your tea will arrive freshly brewed in one of the cafe’s sleek, flat-bottomed glass tumblers. Or purchase a take-home batch of your preferred blend, packaged in amber glass pharmaceutical jars, which customers are encouraged to recycle when they come in for a top-up.
One of the most exciting aspects of T Totaler’s permanency is the launch of its new program of tea-themed events and workshops.
A new series of tea alchemy and blending workshops will offer hands-on and interactive classes in tea properties and brewing techniques. Attendees will also get the chance to create their own personalised blend from a range of herbs and flavours to take home and enjoy.
On Friday nights the space will transform into Tea Bar. It will serve up a range of playful, non-alcoholic Tea Tails, such as the staff favourite the Tea-Negroni – a mix of Gin-seng, juniper, San bitters, orange and chamomile.
On Sundays, the store will host a five-course matched tea and cake degustation from 4pm–6pm. Diners will also have the opportunity to learn a little bit about the art of matching tea and food.
