Sydney Craft Beer Week 2014 promises more events, lots more craft beer.
Now in its fourth year, Sydney Craft Beer Week continues on its merry way, celebrating all that’s great about craft beer – and this city’s love affair with it. This year’s festival will see more than 100 events take place in 40 venues, with a mix of ticketed and free events. Expect tap takeovers, beer and food matching dinners, beer tastings, brewing workshops and even a festival-within-a-festival at Carriageworks to end the week.
It all adds up to some beery times. Here are our picks for this year’s festival.
Sydney Craft Beer Week Gala Event – Giant Dwarf Theatre, Redfern
For the first time, Sydney Craft Beer Week will kick off with what’s being billed as a gala opening event. Redfern’s Giant Dwarf Theatre will host the boozy soiree at which more than 20 local and international breweries will showcase their ales. There will also be live music and the chance to meet brewers.

(It’s a complete) Sausage-fest! – The Welcome Hotel, Rozelle
Gastro-pub The Welcome Hotel will host this sausage sizzle, which promises to be a step up from Bunnings on a Saturday morning. Noon–5pm, October 18
Ladies Beer High Tea – Harts Pub, The Rocks
A staple of the Sydney Craft Beer Week roster, the ladies beer high tea returns for a relaxed and informative afternoon of females-only beer appreciation. Beer, Chocolate and Cheese – Harts Pub, The Rocks
Beer and chocolate – gross mishmash or perfect match? This event at Harts Pub seeks to prove it’s the latter. A range of craft beers will be on offer and expert hands will show you how to match chocolate and beer. The easier-to-envisage match of beer and cheese will also be explored.

Beer of Origin
Happening all week, Beer of Origin will see 12 of Sydney's best craft-beer venues pouring beers from an Australian state, or a country. That means there will be NSW beers tapped at the Dove and Olive and the KB Hotel, Victorian brews at the Local Taphouse, and ales from QLD at Trinity Bar. The Welcome Hotel, Black Penny and the Royal Albert will be pouring beers from Tasmania, SA and WA respectively.
All week, various venues.
Little Creatures Carnival
Though there's sadly no Little Creatures brewery in Sydney, they're bringing their waterside vibe to the terrace of the Sydney Maritime Museum this Craft Beer Week, and they're bringing with them a host of carnival acts. A super-human strong man, a ballerina, a contortionist and a hula hooper will accompany four different beer pours, and there will be burgers.
1pm-5pm October 19
Sydney Craft Beer Week runs from October 18–26.
