Sonoma is about to add a seventh store to its ever-expanding operation. A new Rose Bay site will open in mid-December on the corner of New South Head Road and Newcastle Street.

In addition to signature sourdoughs, pastries, sandwiches and cakes available for breakfast and lunch, a new dinner menu will be served from 5.30pm, complete with a wine list designed to complement the bread.

“We’ve been thinking about evenings for a while,” says Sonoma CEO, Alex Dower. “We’re a bakery-inspired cafe, and the challenge was to move into evenings and make bread relevant to dinner. We can’t just do a typical sandwich menu, but we didn’t want to lose our heritage as a sourdough bakery. So we’ve focused on our breads with beautiful cheeses from Australia and Europe, meats and wines that work well together. It’s not a wine bar, but you can enjoy wines selected to complement the breads.”

The design is the work of Blainey North – known for luxury hotel fit-outs. “You’ll still know you’re in Sonoma, but it’s a new version of that, with a nod towards the evening operation with a bar area,” says Dower. “As well as thinking hard about the menu, we’ve had to think about a design that works for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”

Sonoma Rose Bay will open mid December 2015 at 779 New South Head Road, Rose Bay.
