For those who find themselves craving an afternoon coffee but struggle with the long-lasting buzz, Soma has introduced the perfect fix.

The coffee hub in Ultimo has launched a new 50/50 blend called Afternoon Delight, which uses regular caffeinated beans with a rich, fruity and darker roast coffee flavour, and decaf beans.

“There’s a market for people who are looking for a kick in the afternoon, and with Afternoon Delight they can enjoy the taste of coffee with a lower stimulant,” says owner Sam Sgambellone.

The cafe is at the forefront of roasting science and coffee trends, acting as a hub for coffee experimentation and education (it hosts coffee classes and courses).

Afternoon Delight is brewed differently and is served as a filter coffee rather than as an espresso, so it’s a classic mug of coffee.

“The launch almost went too well. I was told we might need a new plunger and people even wanted to buy the mugs we served it in,” says Sgambellone.

Afternoon Delight is $4 take away and $4.50 dine in. A 250-gram bag of beans is $17.
