The guys behind Cake Wines have their fingers in many pies these days. Sure, they know a thing or two about wine, but they’re also passionate about all things art, music, film and food. Which is why over the coming weeks they will be sharing their passion with the rest of us at their pop-up wine bar in Chippendale’s Queen Street Studio.
The pop-up bar is part of a three-week long farewell party to the warehouse space, which is closing its curtains after playing host to a variety of multidisciplinary arts events since 2005. As a tribute to the venue, an art installation titled Our House will feature photographic work by artists that have been part of the Queen Street Studio Residency Program over recent years. Meanwhile, art workshops, live theatre performances and a screening from the Cake Film Series – Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell a documentary on the life and work of the multi-genre musician – will quite possibly tempt you to stick around for more than a tipple.
Also participating in the last hurrah will be a long list of music events that will set your weekend evenings off to great start, including an FBi radio live broadcast and performances from homegrown band Winter People and DJs Simon Caldwell and Mrs Bishop.
Cake’s choice of four wines (Cabernet Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir) will be taking centre stage at the bar throughout the send-off, along with Manly’s 4 Pines Beer and The Hills Ciders from the Adelaide Hills. Peckish punters won’t need to venture out of the venue for a bite – make sure to stick around from nibbles from Bourke Street Bakery.
