Wintertime is porridge time – as we head into the cooler months and dig out our scarves and coats, there’s nothing better on a chilly morning than a big bowl of steaming oats for breakfast. Pop-Up Porridge will be opening on Sunday April 27, just a few minutes’ walk from Bondi Beach.
Stella Maynard and Babs Robertson are two friends passionate about porridge who open their pop-up stall every so often around Sydney. They use organic ingredients where possible and always use biodegradable bowls and spoons for serving.
The porridge is made with all-organic oats and the flavours are classic creamy banana or coconut and quinoa (which is vegan), priced reasonably at $5-$6 per bowl. ‘Non-porridge’ people are catered for with bircher muesli also on the menu, alongside chai tea, homemade muffins and cakes.
Top your bowl with milk, cream or yoghurt, or to sweeten it up try a spoonful of maple syrup, honey or brown sugar. Fresh banana, nuts and berry coulis are also available for topping with.
So make like Goldilocks this Sunday and head to Bondi for a humble, but just-right bowl for breakfast.
