When Assiette became Albion Street Kitchen early this year, the name and interior weren’t the only changes. Chef Warren Turnbull decided to put the kitchen to good use during lunch hours as well – and to that end, Chur Burger has arrived in the laneway out the back (and that’s Kiwi slang for awesome). Behind a roller door and with only a few lean-to seats and high tables in a just-scruffy-enough, street art covered courtyard, there are six burgers on offer, delivered promptly out of the back door of the Albion Street Kitchen.
Choose from beef, chicken, pork, lamb, fish or veg. Not matter what you pick, these $10 burgers come bursting with the kind of flavours and touches that make them lunches worth remembering. The pulled pork comes on a fluffy brioche-style bun with red slaw and dripping in fennel mayo, while we hear the fish is winning regular fans.
Drink options are simple too, but it’s the tall and cold Heilala vanilla milkshakes that’ll take you back to your childhood. There’s something really cheeky about sneaking down Beauchamp Lane and ordering your burger and smoked chilli salt chips – like hiding behind the gym at school when you should have been in class.
