An online canine bakery, Woof Gateaux, has launched with customisable cupcakes, doughnuts and treats.

Head chef Jason Blachowski (former Ivy chef) has more than 25 years of experience in the kitchen. But dog treats are new to him. Handmade Mutt Cake, Pawberry Shortcake and a Pooch’s Peanut Butter cake (without preservatives, sugar or dairy) are all on the menu.

“I know what dogs can eat; took a bit of googling but I’m an experienced chef, which helped me out a bit,” says Blachowski. The idea behind Woof Gateaux came to him on his puppy’s first birthday. “I just recently got a Boston terrier, who turned one, and I decided to make her a birthday cake. I put it online and everyone said: ‘That cake is amazing’, so I decided to make a business out of it,” he says.

The cupcake bases are made from either raw kangaroo, veal or turkey or cooked carrot and honey. The creamy frosting on top is made from potato and peanut butter.

A four-inch treat made from either a meat mix or from carrot and honey is $22. Each one comes with potato-peanut butter frosting and is topped with dog treats. A 22-centimetre heart-shaped celebration cake will satisfy the endless appetite of your larger pooch for $38.

When asked about the success of the business so far, Blachowski says, “Amazing. We’ve been very busy – getting orders coming in like you wouldn’t believe.”

Delivery is available within a 30-kilometre radius including to Sylvania, Bankstown, Parramatta, Chatswood and Mosman. Pick-up is available for those outside of these areas.

Woof Gateaux was at the Dog Lovers Show at Hordern Pavilion last weekend, which helped launch the site.

“The ultimate goal is to have Sydney’s first dog-only cafe,” he says. “It will be good to walk your dog in the morning, have a coffee and give your dog a treat.”
