Annandale-based Chilterns Catering by One Hundred Hospitality group has launched a bespoke pop-up picnic service. All you have to do is choose the location, and picnic hampers for two or more are delivered (or collected).
The option for two comes with sandwiches (made from Sonoma bread), cheeses, antipasti and desserts, as well as rugs and all necessary crockery. You can also choose fully gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan hampers.
Bigger groups can select hampers including the Brunch Picnic, the Paella Picnic and the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. You can add classic entertainment like croquet and boules, or try your hand at giant ten-pin bowling or giant chess for a party or work event.
One Hundred Hospitality’s creative director Zae Greenwood wants to change people’s conceptions about catering food.
“People often see catering as something indulgent and very rich. We take the opposite approach, with a focus on healthy, quality, locally sourced produce,” he says.
The company opened a Parramatta Road shopfront six months ago, complete with neon lighting and a gorilla mural. It acts as an office, kitchen and consultation space for the events company.
“The tasting table (with views into the kitchen) takes nuances from the chef’s table experience that one might get in Europe. Clients view the food being prepared and the executive chef Mark Adler talks them though the menu. It’s all part of the journey of planning your event,” says Greenwood.
“We’re very design focused; everything is considered,” he says. “We love putting the creative team to the test, but we also have easy, ready-to-go packages.” This means you can work with the team to create your own original ideas for an event, or you can choose from a number of pre-designed packages such as the Forage and Graze, High Tea or Classic BBQ (complete with homemade burgers, vegetarian and vegan salads and gluten-free brownies).
