Taking on the pop-up trend, celebrity chef Neil Perry is set to pop into his own Rockpool restaurant in the Rocks for a series of collaborative lunches that will see the leading chef in the kitchen once again.
The inspiration comes from Chez Panisse (California) and will see Perry working hand in hand with head chef Phil Wood to create the limited edition lunches.
“Phil is one of the most talented young chefs I have had the pleasure of working with and I am looking forward to getting back into the Rockpool kitchen with him and rolling up my sleeves,” said Perry.
The idea is to take a step away from Rockpool’s typical fine diner fare for an exclusive round of more casual Italian/French provincial cuisine. And it’s a great chance for Perry to get back into his flagship restaurant kitchen, which has garnered an iconic reputation over its 20-plus years, in amongst managing his suite of restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
The menus will be heavily influenced by the best seasonal produce available on that particular day and will not be repeated. But with the first of the lunches showcasing suckling pig with balsamic peaches, Spencer Gulf king prawns with zucchini and smoked tomato and seasonal cherries with elderflower, the changing menu is full of seasonal delights.
The first lunch took place last Thursday December 1, with the next on this Friday, 9 December and finally Friday December 16, but the concept is expected to continue in February 2012, with dates set around Perry’s availability.
We think it might be a good time to see where all the magic started.
The next lunch will be this Friday December 9 2011. Dates for 2012 pending. $75pp for three courses.
