“My love for local, seasonal produce is what really drives my passion for food,” says McEnearney. “I'm looking forward to being at the heart of what makes the market tick; getting to know the artisans and producers who supply us. And unearthing new and as-yet-unknown producers who can add another dimension to create even more of a bustling food hub.”
The chef will work closely with the 70-plus stallholders to focus on promoting the provenance of seasonal produce. Expect to see an increase in demonstrations, market tours and recipe suggestions.
“My ultimate wish is to inspire our community to shop at a local and seasonal level. I want to engage the public and help them understand the accessibility and joys of market shopping – as our European counterparts do. In France and Italy the markets are the centre of life. They pulse with vitality. I want Sydney to have the privilege of this kind of a market,” says McEnearney.
“I believe Carriageworks Farmers’ Market has the potential to be one of the world’s greatest markets.”
