Tucked away in the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Poolside Cafe sits above its namesake, the Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton swimming pool. With Mrs Macquarie’s Point on one side and the glistening Woolloomooloo Bay on the other, this is the perfect spot to lazily read the morning paper or share a bottle of wine in the afternoon.
Combining elements of its natural and urban surroundings, the cafe is modern, airy and full of light, streaming in from the floor to ceiling windows that show off the breathtaking views. The indoor area spills out onto a wooden terrace dotted with white tables, orange chairs, woven ottomans and blue-striped lounges - perfect for basking in the sunshine. Forgotten to slip, slop slap? Poolside has you covered, offering brightly coloured sombreros to help you sun safely.
The all-day breakfast menu is filled with hearty meals like the baked green eggs (ricotta, parmesan, tomato, cannellini beans & herb toast), vegetarian and vegan options and indulgent French toast with dulce de leche and mascarpone for sweet tooths. For lunch, we suggest the crispy zucchini flowers or poached ocean trout. Be sure to try one of the frappes made with fruit, juice, and ice – or our favourite: the lychee, strawberry and cloudy apple.
Whether you’re popping upstairs after a swim, wandering in from a walk in The Domain, or just looking for somewhere to enjoy a coffee in the sun, this is the sort of place you come to for breakfast and end up staying for lunch.
