St Jerome’s Laneway Festival is set to hit Sydney again in February 2018 and this time around alongside acts such as Bonobo, the War On Drugs, Father John Misty, Alex Cameron and the Internet, the festival is bringing with it a sophisticated food offering. Punters will be offered a selection of first-rate dining options reaching well beyond standard festival fare, all expertly curated by David Moyle (Melbourne’s Longsong; Hobart’s Franklin’s).
The idea came about after festival co-founder Danny Rogers, collaborator Johanna Greenway and Moyle got talking about similarities between the music and food industries.
“It was an extended conversation over alcohol in Tasmania,” says Moyle. “The three of us wanted to develop an interesting food and beverage offering on the site. There has always been a strong food culture associated with Laneway. This is just a different offering. This ties more into the experience.”
The lineup of chefs boasts a list of all-stars, both current and acclaimed, like Dan Pepperell (Restaurant Hubert), Mike Eggert (Pinbone and Mr Italian Dirty Disco), and Enrico Tomelleri (10 William St), with the team from Moyle’s own Longsong lending a Melbournian touch to the festival that began in their home town. “All of the contributors are like-minded professionals that care about their craft, and yet don’t take themselves too seriously,” Moyle says. “In a very serious industry its important to know when to have a good time.”
It’ll be a relaxed, collaborative but restaurant-like experience. The four venues will share a single tent with shared seating out the front.
“Laneway has had a long association with Shaun,” says Moyle. “The idea behind the cocktails is fresh and lively rather than dark and stormy. Expect spritzes, bubbles and stirred cocktails.”
There’ll also be a Deliveroo pop-up, featuring an “interactive infinity mirrored cube”, custom-made gelati from Gelato Messina, and more casual dining options from Mary's, Bodega 1904, Yulli’s, Ume Burger and Ghostboy Cantina. Stand-by for menus to be released in the new year.
