No social media announcement, and no press release. Just a sign in the window reading: “We wish to advise that as of today, Monday 11th of May, Fish Face has ceased trading”.

After 14 years, Steve Hodges’ much-loved restaurant, Fish Face, closed suddenly yesterday.

When asked for comment, business partner Sally Hobbs declined to give any more information beyond an official emailed statement explaining the closure is due to personal circumstances and the decision had not been made lightly.

In 2013, Fish Face closed its Darlinghurst location to reopen as the more casual Fish and Chips by Fish Face, which has also recently closed. Late the same year, the original Fish Face relocated to Double Bay, where its fine-dining concept continued, however former co-owner and chef Josh Niland left the restaurant in mid-2014.
