The most recent glitzy addition to Sydney’s inundation of specialist chocolate stores is the Parisian-inspired Princess Coco Chocolaterie, located opposite Darling Park. With plush purple lounges, velvet, crystal chandeliers, champagne striped wallpaper and pots of lavender, Princess Coco’s salon gratifies the most prominent cocoa aristocrat with imported French Valrhona bon bons, petite temptations of Carafutti Abricot (ganache with caramelised apricot pulp) and Ganache thé Jasmin (ganache infused with Chinese jasmine green tea).
Signature Valrhona desserts include the indulgent Raspberry Délice, a densely layered flourless chocolate sponge with raspberry compote and Valrhona chocolate mousse, beautified with pistachios, silver leaf and fresh raspberries. To share, consider the playful Fondue au Chocolat, with generous condiments of fresh strawberries, house-made marshmallows, caramelised bananas and petit choux filled with cream. For a quick fix, we recommend the La Tradition beverage, with either Valrhona milk or dark chocolate, served hot or cold.
The Willy Wonka-inspired art installation, La Fountain de Cacao, in the front window, featuring chocolate poured from one glass decanter to another on strings, is in itself, worth visiting.
