We had a riot of a time at our first cookout with Smokey O’s BBQ and Bulleit Bourbon at The Barber Shop on York Street last week. We munched on smoky, slow-cooked brisket plates with coleslaw and pickles and sticky, Kansas-style burnt ends sandwiches matched with Bulleit cocktails; the fun stretched way into the night.
This Sunday, Bulleit and Broadsheet are up for another round, celebrating all that is great about low and slow American barbeque food. Andrew Levins from The Dip at Goodgod Small Club is mixing up another batch of his legendary barbeque sauce, and Tim Odom and his team at Smokey O’s BBQ are bringing their finest ribs to Arcadia Liquors in Redfern for cookout # 2. There’s a breezy courtyard out back and plenty of room up front to pull up a seat and a cocktail, and stay a while. If you’re lucky, there may even be some live tunes.
We’ll be mixing up another round of cocktails thanks to Bulleit bourbon, or if you’re up for it, served straight up. Drinks are complimentary when you purchase your ribs of choice, though we have to admit it’s tough to stop at just one.
