If you’ve ever wandered the busy eat-street strip of Crown Street Surry Hills, then you’ll be familiar with the sight of satiated diners wandering out of seasonally focused Bird Cow Fish.

Known for chef Alex Herbert’s classic bistro fare, the restaurant has been a Surry Hills favourite since it opened in 2006. But after 23 years as a chef and five years with BCF, Herbert is calling it a day at the much-loved restaurant to turn her attention to new ventures and to focus on her family.

The veteran chef cites a tough Sydney dining market and uncertain economic times as additional reasons for the changing direction, but is pleased to close BCF while it is still strong. “That way, I leave with great memories of our achievements, the great food and our happy customers,” she says.

Bird Cow Fish will officially close it’s doors this Saturday February 11 2012 and will be much missed, but will be open for dinner only for the rest of this week to give diners the chance to say goodbye. We look forward to seeing Herbert at her Eveleigh market stall after a small break and will also be keeping an eye out to see where her future projects take her.
