If you can’t stand that cliché “every hour is happy hour”, we feel you. We like our beer cold, affordable, and ideally presented to us within a specific timeframe at a great venue. So we’ve rounded up some of the best beer specials at the best spots in Sydney – week in, week out.

Keg and Brew
Happy hour: Mon to Fri, 5pm–7pm

The Keg and Brew has become a craft beer destination ever since the former KB Hotel’s sticky carpets were ripped up and replaced with a slick refurbishment three years ago. It really is all about beer at the Surry Hills local: 30 taps and three hand pumps means there is always something interesting to try. Beers are a breathtakingly cheap $4.50 apiece at Happy Hour, Monday to Friday from 5pm to 7pm.

Buckley’s Craft Beer Bar
Happy hour: Mon to Fri, 5pm–7pm

William Buckley was an escaped convict who overcame the odds to survive for decades in the bush, forging strong links with local Aborigines. Two hundred years later, Buckley’s Craft Beer in Circular Quay serves beer in his memory. Venture to the harbourside hotel from 5pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday for happy hour, where you’ll find $6 glasses of selected wines and $8 pints of James Squire One Fifty Lashes, named of course after another convict – the one who established the colony’s first brewery.

Bitter Phew
Happy hour: Mon, 5pm–late

Tucked away in a tiny nook above Oxford Street in Darlinghurst is Bitter Phew, a wonderland for craft beer lovers. Some of the finest and most obscure local and international boutique beers pour forth from 12 rotating taps. Start the week off right at Bitter Phew’s Monday Taps, where from 5pm you can enjoy 425ml of beer for the price of 300ml. Play a board game and have a BL Burger delivered to your table.

Bondi Bowling Club
Happy hour: Tue to Fri, 4pm–6pm

Those lucky to be at a loose end on a weekday arvo should head to Happy Hour at Bondi Bowling Club. Revamped in 2014 by restaurateur Anthony Kaplan and his team, the local bowlo serves up $7 craft beers from Young Henrys, Stonewood and lesser known breweries like Endeavour, between 4pm and 6pm, from Tuesday to Friday. It’s a members-only affair, but for your $20 membership you get a free beer and a 10 per cent discount across the board. If you’re game, stick around after happy hour for Fluoro Night Bowls.

Kirribilli Hotel
Happy hour: Tue and Thu, 5pm–7pm

The Billi, as locals affectionately know it, has been one of the Lower North Shore’s favourite watering holes since 1937. Today the Art Deco hotel in Milsons Point stocks a rotating roster of 10 or so craft beers at a time. Drop in on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 5 and 7pm for Hoppy Hour, when the craft beer of the month is just $6. Past feature beers have come from boutique breweries like 4 Pines, Northern Beaches’ Modus Operandi and Balter, from the Gold Coast. Don’t go home hungry; Tuesday is $15 burger night.

Hotel Sweeneys
Happy hour: Mon, 5pm-late

CBD pub Hotel Sweeneys pays homage to the long and illustrious association shared by beer and curry every Monday at Craft + Curry. For $16 you can choose a curry – green, Panang and Massaman are all on the menu – and wash it down with a refreshing brew like Little Creatures IPA or James Squire One Fifty Lashes. Order at the kitchen, take your ticket to the bar to receive your beer, and nab a spot on the rooftop if it’s sunny.
