Coogee Bay Hotel will open a summer pop-up Coogee Burger Shack in the hotel’s beer garden this Friday November 28. And there’s a charitable twist to the opening evening. The hotel has partnered with food-rescue organisation OzHarvest and will donate all sales from the Friday opening to the not-for-profit which delivers food bound for landfill to 500 charities in Australia.
“OzHarvest just seemed the right fit,” says hotel owner Chris Cheung. “It’s an amazing charity that assists vulnerable people. The holiday season can be a particularly difficult time for those in need and we wanted to give back to the community.”
The burger shack will be a pop-up for summer, taking up residence in the beer garden, with greenery poking from between its wooden slats and operating Friday to Sunday for the season.
The outdoor pop-up has a tight list of burgers from Tillott (previously of Cruise Bar, Pink Salt, Liquidity), which you can enjoy in the beer garden, or takeaway for some sunshine and golden sands at the beach across the way. There will be slow-cooked pulled pork with apple slaw and barbeque sauce; school prawns and shaved iceberg lettuce; and Korean fried chicken with chilli mayonnaise and kimchi. So there’s more than enough to keep you going while you’re beachside.
The Coogee Bay Hotel Burger Shack will open on Friday November 28 from 4pm–10pm with 100 per cent of sales on the day donated to OzHarvest.
