Three nights a week The Baron will shut its grinder and open its beer taps to serve, food and tunes. After a brief test of nights a little while back, they are returning permanently. This coincides with the refurbishment of the cafe.
Known as the place to go for brunch in Castle Hill, it has extended its trading hours from Wednesday through to Friday. Food is diverse, from burgers to sashimi and mussels. The menu changes frequently, reflecting the seasons, but a signature dish is the Wagyu burger served with confit eschallots, endive, provolone and pickled celery.
The Baron’s wine list focuses on new wines that are a little hard to find anywhere else. Brands include Architects of Wine, Delinquente Wine Co. and Patrick Sullivan – responsible for co-owner Mike Ico’s favourite wine at the moment – an orange wine by Brittania Creek. Beer is by two rotating taps of Young Henrys and drinks are rounded off with a succinct cocktail list.
As the sun dips, the cafe takes on a small-bar vibe, and the music complements the food and drinks all night. You are guaranteed hip-hop and rap tunes – the perfect vibe to welcome in the weekend.
