After a few years based at Campos Coffee's headquarters in Newtown, Rosetta Stone Artisan Bakery has moved its operation to Alexandria. But its neighbours remain the same, with the bakery sharing a section of the building on Fountain Street with Don Campos, Campos Coffee's second flagship store.

There are some other high-profile neighbours as well. Bread & Circus, with its wholesome and healthy fare, operate out back, while over in the opposite corner of the building, Cipro Pizza and its band of ex-Rockpool chefs are doing staggeringly popular pizza by the slice.

Rosetta Stone's counter sits across from Don Campos and in front of large glass walls, exposing the bakery behind. Tables and chairs loosely occupy the concrete floors between the coffee shop and bakery, while exposed beams and industrial lights have been preserved amidst the building's repurposing.

For breakfast, try the fruit salad, toasted muesli or an almond croissant with a rich coffee from across the way. The morning also sees a stream of people grabbing bread to take home. Peruse the glass case and choose from the white sourdough, light rye or potato, rosemary and roast garlic loaves.

The lunch menu changes daily. Expect things like the slow-cooked lamb sandwich with shaved cabbage and aioli on potato and rosemary bread, or the Portuguese chicken with tomato, Spanish onion and chilli lime mayo on Turkish bread. Salads include a zesty kumara and quinoa number with cherry tomatoes, walnuts, fetta and a lemon vinaigrette, not to mention an interesting cauliflower and zucchini mix with lentils, raisins, almonds and a harissa vinaigrette.

Afterwards, it'll be hard to go past the gorgeous sweets in the display cabinet. Share a macadamia nut brownie, orange almond cake with lime mascarpone or a Portuguese tart. Or better yet, don't share.
