Swish new precinct Wunderlich Lane is transforming a corner of Cleveland and Baptist streets. The 1987 Bank of NSW Building sits on the corner, with its federation style guiding the vibe of the rest of the build – and it’s all opening this season. The offering spans boutique hotel The Eve, wellness spaces and boutique retail stores, and a line-up of dining rooms from some of Sydney’s finest teams.

As a centrepiece, The Eve brings rooftop, poolside and lobby dining, plus room service across 102 boutique rooms. Hospo group Liquid & Larder (Bistecca, Alfie’s, The Gidley, The Rover) is leading the food and beverage at the hotel, with the individual venues yet to be named. But there are plenty that we do have names for – kicking off with Regina La Pizzeria from the Lumi team.

A departure from the fine-dining dazzle of Pyrmont’s Lumi, Regina will be an “elevated” spot for a slice. Owners Federico Zanellato (Lumi), Angelo Cristella (Lumi’s restaurant manager) and Karl Firla (Oscillate Wildly) and expert pizzaiolo Matteo Ernandes (ex-Da Orazio, Matteo) are heading it up. From October Ernandes will be firing up Australia’s debut Fazzone oven, which uses a volcanic rock to perfect the pies.

Then there’s Olympus, the 200-seat Greek diner from Jonathan Barthelmess (The Apollo, Cho Cho San, and Brisbane’s Yoko Dining and Greca). Find food from the mountains with a “touch of Athenian flair” under a staggering oculus that allows year-round al fresco dining.

The team at House Made Hospitality is having a bumper year. They’re busy running Lana, Grana, Apollonia, Martinez and more, and preparing to open a pair of venues in Wunderlich. “Eating house and noodle bar” Island Radio, led by Andrianto “Andy” Wirya (ex-Easy Tiger, Mr Wong), will bring together the flavours of Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia in a dining room big enough for 140.

Directly above you’ll find Baptist Street Rec Club, a “neighbourhood cocktail and wine tavern” for “drinks and hoopla”. The vibe leans into the eccentricity of ’80s and ’90s Australiana, through a playful cocktail menu, ice-cold brews and the private party-ready Trophy Room. It’s a bar for local drops and weekend live music for up to 120.

R by Raita Noda switches from high-end à la carte dining during the day to more of an omakase experience after dark. Messina will be scooping from September, and you can already stock up at Harris Farm.

The precinct’s been designed as a meeting space for the community, with seating, gardens and sculptural art pieces throughout.

Wunderlich Lane’s range of dining spaces are expected to open this spring.
