Japanese-accented Woolloomooloo restaurant Riley St Garage is closing after nine years. Owner Brody Petersen announced the closure in an Instagram post; the handsome restaurant’s last service will be on December 23.
“Riley St Garage has been shaped and built by you, our amazing customers who we now call family,” wrote Petersen on Instagram. “Celebrate the end of an era with us. Come dine with us before December 23 for one last tune-up before we drive into the sunset.”
Riley St Garage opened in a beautiful 1930s building – once a car-hire business, then a private parking lot for Westfield’s bigwigs – in 2013. Japanese-accented, it dishes up fusion dishes such as grilled asparagus with macadamia cheese, chicken karaage with honey-yuzu mayo and a show-stopping crispy pork knuckle with tamari soy. Diners cluster around a beautiful bar in the middle of the room, or prop up at banquette seating or private tables down the side.
Petersen says he made the decision to close the venue as he plans on getting out of the hospitality game, according to Good Food; he also told the publication he will lease the space as an office.
Riley St Garage’s final service will be on December 23, 2022.
