Winona Wine Crosses the Harbour Bridge, Bringing Booze and More to the Inner West

Manly’s favourite bottle-o is a northern beaches staple – whether you’re in the market for lo-fi wines, craft beers and boutique spirits, or funky snacks, glassware and nice things for your home. It opened in early 2019, then followed up with an Avalon outpost in 2024. Now, the team’s making big city moves: crossing the bridge to Rozelle.

The space is painted deep blue everywhere but the ceiling, with shelves wrapping the walls and a counter in the centre. “The inner west is a community we’ve had our sights on for a long time,” venue manager Ray De Souza says. “Deeply community-minded, creative and obsessed with great wine and food – perfectly aligned with who we are.”

Owners Luke Miller and Eli Walsh named the bottle-o for Johnny Depp’s botched “Winona Forever” tattoo, which currently reads “Wino Forever”, and of course, the tattoo’s inspiration: Winona Ryder. Beyond being a stop for funky fizzy things, rare bottles, skinsy numbers and more, Winona also has a wine club that’ll have curated packs delivered to your door and free weekly tastings (Fridays, 5pm till 7pm) from winemakers and distributors.

“We want Rozelle to become a true neighbourhood hub,” De Souza says. “A space for locals to pop in, hang out, chat wine, discover new things, and feel at home. [We have] up-and-coming makers, cult icons and hard-to-find rarities, it’s a proper treasure trove for anyone who loves wine and more.”

And, perfectly timed for the festive season, the shop has stocked up on fancy pantry items in the realms of chippies, hot sauce, olives, tinned fish, non-alc and chocolate. Plus, some ace gifting options: fancy lighters, glassware, tinned-fish-shaped candles, bobbly carafes, T-shirts and even Dubbo-forged cheese knives.

The team will be on the road delivering your nice things until late on Christmas Eve. Orders close at midday on the same day.
