If there was ever a day you wanted to buy yourself more than a few cups of coffee, this Friday August 8 is it. StreetSmart has returned with its blindingly simple concept, CafeSmart: buy a coffee at a participating coffee shop, and they will donate $1 to help the homeless. You don’t pay extra for your hit – the coffee shop bears the brunt.
The beauty the concept is that it doesn’t leave you out of pocket (though you are most welcome to pay the difference), and leaves you knowing that your coffee is helping those in need. All you have to do is go out of your way to get to the café’s that is participating. Not that it should be hard: in Sydney alone there are over 90 coffee shops to choose from.
Now in its fourth year, CafeSmart makes a point of donating its earnings to grassroots, StreetSmart’s director Adam Robinson prides the fact that money will be going to charities that are most in need of funding. The money raised at each café goes to charities in each area, so you know that your coffee will go to supporting community projects nearby.
Broadsheet has put together a list of coffee shops in our directory that are participating. Head down to at least one of them come August 8.
