While his British accent might make you think otherwise, hair stylist Jon Sewell is a Potts Point local. After managing La Boutique salon in Double Bay alongside Belinda Jeffrey, and working with brands such as GQ and for clients such as Sarah Murdoch, Sewell has recently branched out on his own to open Jon Sewell Hair on Victoria Street. With a colouring studio downstairs and a petite cutting and styling space on street level, it’s his home away from home. His actual home is less than 500 metres away. Here are his top tips.

Cafe Holm
My favourite coffee shop, Cafe Holm, is next door to my salon. It does the best coffee in Sydney as far as I'm concerned, and it's great service. I love going there because it’s friendly and homely and the coffee is great. Elisa the owner is an amazing baker, she cooks all her own sweets and pastries and they are so good you can taste the love in them.

Wilbur's Place
I go to Wilbur’s Place on Llankelly Place quite a lot for dinner. It’s really friendly with sort of home-style cooking. The thing I love about it is that the menu is quite small, and I’ve pretty much had everything, and each dish is amazing. They’ve got four dishes for each course and they’re all delicious.

Ms. G's
I love going to Ms. G’s. It's just a couple of doors down [from the salon]. The food is always good and it’s got a great atmosphere. It’s a bit more of a party place than a quiet dinner spot, which is fun. I go there just for a drink sometimes, too. The pork hock is my favorite.

Macleay Street
Walking up and down Macleay Street is one of my favourite things to do in the area. I often get caught spending a fortune down there, just by nipping in and out of all the shops. I love the bookshop down the bottom, Potts Point Bookshop. I recently re-bought the whole set of Harry Potter books again, I've read them so much my old ones have fallen apart!

Bloody Mary's
I suppose it’s in Darlinghurst actually, but Bloody Mary’s on Victoria Street does the best brunch and is a great hangover cure. Its cocktails are pretty amazing.
